About

Why do we love certain houses, and why do they seem to love us? It is the warmth of our individual hearts reflected in our surroundings.
— T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings

HOMEmakers of Oregon has been built on a foundation of quality relationships with our clients. As a result, we work almost exclusively by referral. It is important to us that the people we work with feel acknowledged, appreciated, valued, and successful. You are a crucial and respected part of our project team.

Mary Tongue, founder and co-owner, has supplemented her inherent passion for good design with more than 35 years of work in construction management and operations, customer relations, and staff development. Prior to establishing HOMEmakers in 1999, Mary gained experience as office manager for S. R. Turner Construction, a custom residential builder in Portland.

Bob Tongue, co-owner and Mary’s husband, also brings over 35 years of experience to HOMEmakers. He specializes in organizing, scheduling, and managing the firm’s job sites. Bob’s strong interest in community service has led him to volunteer his skills for water and sanitation projects in Nicaragua.

Our motivation arises from our desire to achieve our best work—whether it be in design, construction, or customer service—but each project is also firmly grounded by our practical approach to business.
